this blog covers current and classic TV shows
and reviews of upcoming television programs
along with the latest TV on DVD releases!

THE NEW
I've started a new blog with a news & political slant, visit daily for news bites you can use. I promise you'll be better informed in a minute a day at NewsRegurgitator.com.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked is set to pass the $100 million Box Office mark. The new Mission Impossible movie has passed $350 million.

It was common in past decades for the Oscar telecast to move from venue to venue but they've been locked in at the Kodak theater for years. That may change as producers are exploring other options.

Legendary Blues singer Etta James, reportedly near death with chronic Luekemia and a host of other problems, was taken off her respirator and she's getting better. Her husband and two sons are fighting over control (the singer has dementia) and the millions she's earned.

A former Kardashian nanny is pitching a tell-all - why do people care?!?!

The new Absolutely Fabulous episodes went over big in Great Britain last month (they debut on BBC America this week) and a big screen version of the series is being planned. This year’s Christmas special was the show’s return after an absence of six years.

TV Blog / 1966 Batmobile from the TV showYOU WANT THIS!
Bored with today's cars and looking for something ultra-sporty? How about a 1966 Batmobile! Cruise in style as pedestrians and supervillains alike stare in amazement. The ultimate Drop Top and only $188,000 so anyone can afford it (well, maybe you can). Batcave not included. From the press release: each Replica Batmobile packs the power of a brand new GM350 crate engine beneath its fiberglass body, so racing from the Batcave to Commissioner Gordon’s office in just a few bat-seconds is easier than sliding down the Batpole. But what about those all-important bat-gadgets? Well prepare to soil your satin pants (worn over your tights, natch) in excitement because this triumph of engineering is fully loaded, and includes a working rocket exhaust flamethrower, opening roll top dashboard doors, flashing red beacon, automatic Batbeam antenna grid and glowing Detect-a-Scope radar screen.

Cheeta from the Tarzan movies has died. Reportedly Cheeta was “roughly 80 years old, loved fingerpainting and football and was soothed by nondenominational Christian music"

In this 48 Hour Film Festival short I played an Ayn Randian CEO who takes this business philosophy to absurb but completely predictable results. I thought it turned out pretty good considering it had to be written, shot & edited in 2 days. Sadly, that's not my red crushed velvet suit.

THAT GIRL & OTHER STUFF
Me-TV will have a New Year's Day That Girl marathon starting at 11am to 5 pm EST. That should be fun, That Girl was one of those sitcoms from back in the day that I really enjoyed and I still find it pleasing to watch. The openings still get me. Did you know they added lyrics to the last season theme song? They're a little forced but then the show had a desperate air about it during that last year.

If That Girl had been renewed for a sixth season Anne Marie and Donald were going to be married. They prolly should have done it a year earlier but the official story was that Marlo Thomas didn't want to do a fifth year much less a sixth. She felt the series was played out and, as a teen TV viewer, I had to agree. Still, those first three seasons especially are terrific and get my vote for best TV theme song ever.

Here's the 10 minute pilot film that partially aired on the 1966 ABC Fall Season preview show, dig those crazy pristine shots of New York in 1966. Notice that Donald Hollinger was originally Donald Bluesky, her native American talent agent. It was wisely decided before shooting the first show that an agent trying to date one of his actress clients was way too predatory in nature so Donald became a journalist instead and George Carlin was cast as the agent.

The Burr Tillstrom Copyright Trust released Kukla, Fran and Ollie : The First Episodes Volume Two on Friday, December 16. It is once again being sold through Amazon.com. The last DVD was made from video copies of the kinescopes that Burr had produced before he died. This volume was created directly from the kinescopes. The majority of the shows are from 1949-1954, but the "extras" include some of the 5 minute "Kukla and Ollie" shows Burr did for NBC back in the early 60s.

Have you heard about the tradition of watching King Kong on Thanksgiving Day? James Burns has the back story on this unusual holiday happening. I guess it's no weirder than the Thanksgiving Twilight Zone marathons that were popular in the 1980s.

1960s CHRISTMAS TUNE
Nat King Cole sings 'The Christmas Song' from his short-lived TV variety show, I think this tune sung by this artist typifies Christmas for me.

MONDAY LAUGHS
There's family time coming up and I can't help but think of the Carol Burnett Show skit where Eunice and her family play Sorry!

RANTINGS
I have a theory. Every time they try to put Sarah Jessica Parker's face in front of the public, or release one of her movies, it's a test. A test to see if the American public is still stupid enough to accept that horse faced witch is an attractive woman. As long as people buy a magazine with her face on it they know the level of dumb is just right. But I don't think the powers that be have a plan if people wake up one day and go, "I once thought that pinched skeletor was pretty?!?"

Jim Tucker on why hiring Howard Stern for 'America's Got Talent' is the best decision NBC has made in years. I think he's right, primetime is too predictable.

The Spanish town that was painted blue for the set of The Smurfs 3D movie voted to keep the community blue - after 80,000 tourists showed up.

There was apparently a spurred marriage proposal on Ellen the other day - most people think it was faked. Lame. I always thought marriage proposals in public was a jerky thing to do unless the two of you are truly soul mates and you both enjoy that kind of thing. Here's a real proposal gone awry at a Basketball game.

Legendary singer Etta James is near death, according to her manager. It's always an affront when I hear someone else sing her songs, like this one.
